Irene Parlby ( 1868-1965)
On January 9, 1868, in London England Irene Parbly was born. She moved to Alberta Canada in 1896. She started off by being the first President for the United Farm Women's Association in 1916. In 1921 Irene was elected to the Alberta Legislature as a member of the United Famers of Alberta party. She was the first female Cabinet Minister in Alberta and the second women in the entire British Empire. In 1930 Irene had the honor of representing Canada at the League of Nations in Geneva. Five years later she was given the Honorary Doctorate of Law from the University of Alberta, she was the first women to every receive this. On July 12, 1965 Irene passed away at the age of 97. Throughout her life Irene proved that women could accomplish anything a man could.
